This competition does not, however, exist in other countries outside the UK. A variety of smaller competitions exist, including Scottish League Cup Series and the Welsh Premier League. The European Cup tournaments feature a European tournament and the same format as the British tournaments. There are two extra competitions in the United States: the United States Football Championship, or the MLS, and the North American Soccer League, or the NCAA. Both the MLS and NCAA have their own standalone conferences, and while a portion of the game is played in the United States, both still incorporate the European format into their tournaments.

International football tournaments are also common, and often international teams will play in the same competition as the local league. For example, last year's European champion and runners up in the Australian and European Championships, Germany and Italy, played in the knockout stage of the tournament. In addition, the Super Cup, or the Intertoto Cup, is an international competition involving the best teams from Europe and some of the world's biggest and most famous clubs. The Super Cup is widely regarded as one of the best international cups in the world and this year is expected to be a great season of competition in terms of the finals, with Manchester United, Barcelona, AC Milan and PSV Eindhoven battling it out for the title.
