Association football, otherwise called simply football or soccer, is a rough-and-tumble team sport usually played between two competing teams of eleven players. "TD" denotes that the ball has been touched by a defender, while an "OT" is an "oil" call, indicating that the offensive team has the ball in its possession but no blockers.


The primary offensive strategy is to tee off. Tying off is a technique where the offense team takes its formation and positions around the goal, before taking a single snap and launching the ball into play. Passing requires the quarterback to read what the defense is trying to do and then decide whether or not he wants to throw the ball downfield. If the defense goes to cover the pitch, the offense team may use a wildcat formation or a jet sweep play, which involves getting the ball to the quarterback quickly, either via a quick change of formation or a sweep. On the other hand, if the defense goes over the ball, the team may use a "hot" formation, which is a set up play where the two wide receivers take the same route. Once the quarterback finds this open receiver, he can throw the football to that player, who is usually running down the field, but might cut back and run down the field (hence the term "hot")


On the defensive side of the football field, the opposing team has a few different strategies. Generally, the defensive line plays the running game, attempting to bring down the running game of the offense. The secondary, which consists of corners, safeties, and nickelbacks, attempts to disrupt passing games by playing the wide receiver position, forcing the quarterback to either throw the ball down the field with no receivers or pick up a chunk of yards and run for a score.


A great football battle is one where both sides are balanced on almost every front. This usually happens on the offensive line. When a tackle tries to tackle a wide receiver, it usually doesn't go so well for the offense. Sometimes, the football gets behind them and a teammate helps tackle the defender.
